Recreation And Re-Creation
Hey there,
The English language is confusing. Two words, same spelling - but different pronunciations can change the whole meaning. Take RECREATION for example. Is it re-creation or rec-creation? Is it creating again or having fun doing it?
In true Morty’s fashion, a “both-and “win-win” situation exists when you look for it. That is when RECREATION means having fun re-creating good things, no matter how you slice or dice them. I think that’s why I like hiking and walking in nature very much, as both a RE-CREATIONAL and REC-CREATIONAL activity. It’s double the fun with Morty by my side, of course.
When you really look at nature, there are so many good examples that we can learn from or even mimic to help us re-imagine our lifestyle and relationship with everything around us. Let’s say we are on our walk in the woods, and Morty sniffs out an antler. Score! She found a treasure and I found a new way to motivate myself.
During late fall to early winter, Leroy The Redneck Reindeer sheds his antlers by rubbing them against a tree. The new ones he grows to replace them are bigger and stronger. While they are growing, the velvet covering the new antler tissue is filled with blood vessels and nerve endings. Leroy’s antlers are very sensitive, and he feels it if he hits the tree branch too hard. After shedding, Leroy is left to defend himself in the wild only with his long strides and good looks (red, raw, or scabbed-over areas on either side of his forehead). And he does this every single year. The good news is all his buddies also go through the same thing. Leroy is not alone.
In order to grow stronger, Leroy has to let go of the old way of being to make room for a new beginning. It’s the same for me, and for you. You’ll go through some pain, discomfort, and isolation physically, mentally, emotionally, or even spiritually. You’ll be extra sensitive to all your surroundings and feelings because you’ll have no way to protect yourself from those judgy eyes and unnecessary comments. You can run, but you can’t hide. However, just like Leroy, you don’t have to go through this awkward and painful growing period alone in agony. Because there are others like you out there, AND you can make this process as much fun or as miserable as you please. Your choice.
Look around. Mother Nature always has something valuable to tell us. Take your time to look and absorb. She is in a constant state of re-creation. For me, I like Mother Nature’s sense of humor and artistic style. Like when you find a provocatively shaped veggie, or a downright scary looking tree!
I am having fun getting to recreate many experiences with Morty and recreating good memories with her is super fun for me.
Morty’s Bark & Brew will be that place of “RECREATION,” where we learn to work with nature and where good things keep happening. When humans and dogs have fun creating good memories and lifelong learning experiences together, the RECREATION can go on all day!
