By the Light of the Neon Moon
The light of a Neon Moon? Wait, wasn't I talking about light in my last post? Yep, good memory! I was talking about natural light & sunshine. Today we're chatting about artificial light.
Why is this important? Well, in short, Morty & I need to be seen in the dark while we're out on our walk. And there's a lot less natural light as we move into fall and winter. And sometimes $hit happens...especially during dark hours.
Safety first is my guide. When you go for a walk or run (with a dog or not) from dusk till dawn, make sure you have some sort of reflective gear and/or illumination.
Both you and your dog need to be visible. Morty & I need to be seen by others in case of emergency (like if I slip, trip & fall, and need medical attention). Second, when it's safe to do so, I also let Morty run off-leash. I tried many gadgets, from reflective leashes to LED collar lights, but wasn’t satisfied with those products. The light was not bright enough so Morty wasn’t fully visible to me from a distance.
Then I found Lighthound, a reflective LED harness for Morty that provides 360-degree illumination. (I got a matching one for myself. Imagine that!). Now many people come up and thank me for making Morty visible to them at night. If you are looking to support our local Minnesota biz, Paw Brite Gear is another great option for an LED harness.
Imagine on your walk, seemingly out of nowhere there’s another person on the trail in the dark. Creepy and scary? Maybe. Or possibly a person walking their dog in the wee hours because the dog reacts to other dogs. By being visible to them, you give them a warning and you give yourself more time to handle the situation accordingly.
Bring your sunshine & smiles wherever you go. In this case, take your Neon Moon with you when you're out in the dark!
Here are Morty’s Safety Tips on walking at night.
Enjoy your walk and stay safe!
